Abstract
Al iniciar este trabajo de investigación de la Iglesia Parroquial del Sagrado Corazón de Jesús del Cerro Barón he querido contribuir en parte, a la formación de un catastro Histórico-Arquitectónico de antiguos edificios en nuestra ciudad, que aunque ha ido renovándose ante el avance paulatino del progreso y bajo la frecuente presión de los ya tradicionales movimientos sísmicos, conserva aún muchos que se mantienen erguido a como mudos testigos de un pasado que a veces fue brillante, lleno de vigor y dinamismo, y otras veces vivió largos períodos de letargia. Pero nunca estuvo ausente el empuje de hombres, mujeres, grupos o instituciones que con su propia iniciativa y recursos fueron conformando todo un patrimonio de realizaciones que empezaron a veces como simples quimeras o ilusiones y se transformaron luego en realidades concretas y materiales. Generalmente se acostumbra referirse a todos nuestros antiguos edificios, como 'arquitectura colonial' desconociéndose que hubo también en los albores del periodo republicano y a lo largo del siglo XXX toda una arquitectura nueva, propia de la época, con toda una gama de estilos en que están representadas las diferentes manifestaciones, tanto en la arquitectura civil como en la religiosa, y cuyas gestaciones a menudo coincidieron con la tendencia en boga, unas más, otras menos.
This research work on the Parish Church of the Sacred Heart of Jesus of Cerro Barón was undertaken in part to contribute to the formation of a Historical-Architectural inventory of old buildings in the city. Although this inventory has been renewed in the face of gradual progress and the frequent pressure of traditional seismic movements, it still preserves many buildings that stand as silent witnesses of a past that was sometimes brilliant, full of vigor and dynamism, and sometimes experienced long periods of lethargy. The impetus of men, women, groups, or institutions was never absent. With their own initiative and resources, they shaped a whole heritage of achievements that sometimes began as simple chimeras or illusions and later turned into concrete and material realities. It is generally customary to refer to all old buildings in the city as 'colonial architecture', unaware that there was also a new architecture in the early republican period and throughout the 20th century with a wide range of styles representing the different manifestations both in civil and religious architecture. The gestation of these buildings often coincided with the trends of the day some more others less."
