Abstract
Only five minutes are sometimes enough to see destroyed what has been built with years of effort. However, when behind the material there is a spiritual background, reconstruction becomes a necessary consequence. On August 16, 1906, an earthquake struck Valparaíso. Among the almost general ruins is a group of buildings belonging to a religious congregation that have also suffered the effects of the catastrophe. The ruins of a small but worthy church, the immediate predecessor of the construction that is the main object of this architectural historical study, stand out there. In carrying out this monograph, the primary purpose of all research work has been taken into account, which is the accuracy and objectivity of the results through the application of a rigorous scientific methodology. Unfortunately, a serious study cannot be framed in rigid duration deadlines, if the results, the content of said study are what matters primarily, and not an administrative consideration. There is a feeling, at the end, of not having exhausted all the sources of information, of not having had the necessary time for optimal data processing, in short, of not having managed to present a work as good as one would have desired, as a way of corresponding to a Congregation, to a University, to a Mentor Professor, the opportunity to carry out this study and the invaluable help received to carry it out.
